Land to be transformed into 62 flats and residential care units

Plans to build 62 flats and residential care units in Newport can finally get under way after details were approved. LRM Planning Ltd applied for the work to be carried out on behalf of Lynnwood Investments and Newport City Homes in 2019 at the land which was formerly owned by Robert Price Builders’ Merchants at Corporation Road in the city.

The 62 flats will include 12 affordable homes, while the five residential care units will provide around the clock care for young people with disabilities post-education. Now Newport council’s planning department has approved details on appearance, layout and scale the work can begin.

The officer’s report initially noted that the site, which will neighbour the Volkswagen garage and Robert Price, should provide 110 parking spaces as specified by the council’s parking standards, but a sustainability assessment has concluded that could be reduced by one space per unit. Parking demand for residential units is now 62 bays and 12 visitor spaces, which has been met by the developer.
