The Cleveland Browns have cut Watson. No, it’s not Deshaun Watson, but rather sixth round rookie and linebacker Nathaniel Watson.
Drafted out of Mississippi State after winning the title of SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Watson had a productive first preseason game this summer but did not play in the last two due to an injury. He had a lot of fans among followers of the team due to his hard-hitting style.
This could be the same as they did with wide receiver David Bell two weeks ago. Cutting a guy on a Thursday of a game week gives them a better chance to see the player clear the waiver wire so that he can return to the team on the practice squad.
Watch for Watson’s return to the Browns this weekend if he is not claimed off of waivers and be one of the first ones back onto the 53-man roster in case of another injury.
Safety Chase Williams was also released from the practice squad.
