The Denver Broncos wore their 1977-inspired throwback jerseys against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday and welcomed more than 120 former players back to Empower Field at Mile as part of their Alumni Weekend.
Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix got into the throwback spirit by reporting to the game wearing a throwback John Elway jersey. He also rocked the jersey during his post-game press conference following a 34-18 win.
“Growing up, he was my dad’s favorite quarterback,” Nix said of Elway after the game. “Being a Bronco now with everything that he’s done to lay this foundation for the guys that come after him and can play quarterback at a high level. With my dad, that history with him being my dad’s favorite player. It’s just two guys that have put me in a situation to go out there and succeed. It was a great day to kind of pay tribute to those that came before you. [I] had it in the closet and wanted to put it to use.”
Denver’s throwback gear is wildly popular among fans and Elway’s throwback jersey is always a top seller. It seems that Nix and his father, Patrick Nix, are also big fans of the Hall of Fame quarterback. Nix is a perfect fit in Broncos Country.
