British Gas and Post Office meeting Brits face-to-face to help with cost of living

Brits struggling with soaring energy bills will soon be able to get debt advice from British Gas advisors in Post Offices - but only in four locations.

Energy costs have been rising due to increases in the price of gas, and experts say the average bill could hit £3,000 this year.

Previous British Gas research found 40% of adults will have trouble paying their next energy bill and 35% will suffer in silence.

So during May and June advisors from British Gas Energy Trust (BGET) will be hosting face-to-face advice sessions.

BGET debt advisors are visiting Cardiff, Glasgow, London and West Bromwich to help give advice on bills.

The ‘Stop the Silence' advice sessions will offer practical and financial advice in towns and cities across the UK throughout May and June.

Customers will be given a step-by-step overview of the support available to them.

They will also be forwarded to other organisations who may be able to help, will be told if they are eligible for benefits and will get energy-saving tips and advice.

All sessions are confidential.

The details of the advice sessions are:

Cardiff
Albany Rd Post Office - May 26 and 27 from 12-4pm

Glasgow
Nile St Post Office - May 23, 24 and 25 from 12-4pm

London

Kennington Park Post Office - May 27 between 12pm-5pm

West Bromwich
Sandwell Centre Post Office - May 23 and 25 between 12-4pm

BGET then wants to host further sessions over the next three weeks, offering appointments and walk-in sessions.

BGET chief executive Jessica Taplin said: “Partnering with Post Office, an organisation that remained a constant in our lives even throughout the pandemic, will help provide a lifeline to those communities we know are really struggling.

"Our aim is to run these pop ups throughout the summer and potentially beyond this, particularly when the next energy price increase is announced, and even more people might be looking for help.”

BGET is a charity set up by British Gas to help Brits struggling with energy costs.
