Britain's Got Talent winner Viggo Venn finally broke his silence on bagging first place and a place on the Royal Variety Show. The performer appeared on ITV's Lorraine show on Wednesday morning after pocketing the £250,000 prize money in the final on Sunday night.
"Expect the unexpected," said Lorraine before he entered the studio. Viggo had pulled out of a scheduled appearance yesterday due to "illness," but made his presence known when he finally sat down to address his win after prancing around the ITV studios.
It comes as the hi-vis clown act received a lot of backlash over winning the show, with many viewers blasting him coming first place and booing him.
"It's not my fault that I won, it's the British public," Viggo said in defence of winning on his chat with Lorraine. "I was kind of hoping I didn't win because it would be so embarrassing but I was so happy."
Lorraine added: "But we need a bit of fun. King Charles will like you, you need to get him to wear a vest he likes a bit of silly."
We reported previously that the official viewing figures of Britain's Got Talent have been revealed, and despite his controversy, Viggo won by raking in 22% of the public vote.
Meanwhile, runner-up Lilliana Clifton took 13.1% of the overall vote whilst third-place magician Cillian O'Connor received 11.8% of the public vote.
Viggo went on to race around the stage and knock host Ant McPartlin over following the news he had won in complete disbelief himself.
Reacting to his win at the time, viewers took to Twitter with their thoughts. One tweeted: "Very surprised. But Viggo was very funny. Very distasteful for anyone to boo Viggo. Not his fault he won, people voted for him, not anyone else. Made it a sour end thanks to the audience reaction. Well done, Viggo!!! #BritainsGotTalent #BGT2023 #bgt."
While another tweeted: "Sounded like a lot of boos there when #ViggoVenn was announced as the winner of #BritainsGotTalent. I thought he was great but a shock omissions from the final 3, and I think everyone thought the young lad would win. Bit of a deflated, down-beat end to the series #BGT2023 #BGT."
A third commented: "Did you hear them boo’s on @BGT? Quite right too, ridiculous. So much more talent in that final tonight. #BGT2023 should not have made the live shows. Poor winner."
"By a stretch, that is the worst Britain's Got Talent result EVER. If that really is genuine, then the British voting public should be ashamed and embarrassed. Booing from the audience, and rightly so. Some real talent missed out there. Joke. #BGT2023 #BritainsGotTalent #BGT," one fumed.
