Britain's Got Talent's Amanda Holden vows to wear 'more latex' as she breaks silence on Ofcom complaints

Britain's Got Talent (BGT) judge Amanda Holden once sparked hundreds of Ofcom complaints after wearing a dress with a daring neckline on the Saturday evening show. The singer and radio presenter, 52, is something of a fashion icon on the show, but numerous viewers took offense at the plunging neckline of her sparkly dress a few years ago.

Amanda has now responded to the backlash, asserting that the judges' panel of BGT is the perfect place to "take risks" with her outfit choices, The Mirror reports. The mum-of-two has also hit out at the phrase "dressing for your age" as she takes fashion inspiration from the likes of musical icons Jennifer Lopez and Kylie Minogue.

"Times have changed and I don’t feel anyone should feel pressure to dress for your age. It’s all about body positivity and feeling good," Amanda said.

In 2017, 663 complaints were made to Ofcom after Amanda wore a sheer black sparkly gown with a plunging neckline. The Julien McDonald dress, which cost £11,000, exposed most of her chest and stomach.

Whilst many viewers respect Amanda's fashion choices on BGT, others complained in record-breaking numbers. Six years on from the outrage, the judge has finally responded to the negative response she received.

"That dress was hysterical – it was Julien MacDonald," she said. "I had bits of fish wire underneath my breasts trying to hold that together.

"But, look, I'm from a small-chest family, plus you know I'm 48 years old. It's all quite laughable, but all everyone seems to talk about.

"It's been called another national crisis – but, oh no, I will not be covered up."

At the time of Amanda's daring fashion choice in 2017, one viewer tweeted: "So Amanda is effectively topless on Britain's Got Talent," whilst another branded her look "totally NOT suitable".

It was not the only look of Amanda's to attract criticism, as a black dress with a thigh split and a corset-style bustier top with one sleeve led to 136 complaints some time ago. More recently, in 2020, 235 complaints were made to Ofcom regarding a navy Celia Kritharioti number worn by Amanda, which some believed exposed her nipples.

In a recent chat with The Mirror, Amanda said of her upcoming looks: "I am thinking more rubber. I enjoyed wearing latex in the audition and I am thinking more latex in their lives.

"More latex and more sweating!"

Although hundreds of complaints have been made about Amanda's fashion choices, the singer has never been censored by Ofcom or ITV. Shortly before the current series hit our screens, Amanda begged "no Ofcom complaints about me this year, please".

"It's like the problem is everyone talking about my t*ts, while these two all the time... (Bruno and Simon Cowell ). [Simon's] shirt's always undone and [Bruno's] stripping off.

"No Ofcom complaints about me this year, please."

Amanda's new co-star Bruno was surprised at the complaints Amanda receives, and asked her "what the problem" was with her and Alesha "flaunting" their assets. "It's nothing," Amanda responded. "People have too much time on their hands."
