Bristol Rovers player ratings vs Accrington: Flat performance as winless run extends

James Belshaw - 6

Was caught out of his box as he was dispossessed as he tried to shield the ball out of play, although there was a strong suspicion of a foul on the keeper before Kilgour cleared the danger. Could do nothing to prevent the goal. His defence was not organised in time and Joe Pritchard's header was perfectly placed.

Alfie Kilgour - 5

Sensed the danger with Belshaw caught out of his goal and Kilgour placed himself well to head clear under pressure from Tommy Leigh in the six-yard box. Had a good first half but in the second several passes went awry. Did offer a threat in the opposition box, but he could not make the most of two decent headed chances.

Bobby Thomas - 5

Dominated in the air, but there was sloppiness in his play on the ground, with too many balls hurried forward without care and some misplaced passes in his own third. Settled down in the second half and made two goal-saving blocks to deny Pritchard and Tommy Leigh.

Lewis Gordon - 6

An improved performance after a chastening afternoon a week ago. Gave little away down his side on the left of the back three. Moved to left-back later on and he did not make an attacking impression in that role.

Harry Anderson - 5

Was blunted as a threat on the right wing, with his best moment coming centrally as he got on the end of Clarke's cross but his shot was deflected just wide.

Paul Coutts - 5

Brought extra security in midfield after Rovers were too open last week, but his passing lacked precision.

Sam Finley - 6

Rovers were calling for more poise on the ball in the first half and Finley was the man offering the quality, releasing Collins a couple of times but to no avail. Was less influential in the second half as the game became increasingly fragmented.

Luke McCormick - 5

Helped Rovers press forward but did not offer enough quality in possession and was taken off with the Gas chasing the game.

Trevor Clarke - 6

Put in a pair of dangerous crosses in the first half, the first being shinned just wide by defender Ryan Astley; the second was met by Anderson whose shot was blocked.

Aaron Collins - 5

Was not up to his usual his high standards, although he remained Rovers' biggest threat by some distance. Came the closest of anyone with a snapshot that cracked the post from a narrow angle.

Ryan Loft - 5

Offered a powerful focal point in the first half, but he and Collins were not always in sync. Was not helped by imprecise hurried balls forward. Battled away but few chances came his way and the scraps he did get were not put on target.

Substitutes

Jordan Rossiter (for Coutts on 58') - 6

A like-for-like replacement for Coutts at the base of the midfield, and offered similar qualities with a bit more tenacity thrown in. A strong contender to start next Saturday after getting some minutes into his legs following the three-match suspension.

Antony Evans (for Clarke on 58') - 5

The will to create and rescue his team is admirable, but the quality of his delivery into the area was lacking.

John Marquis (for McCormick on 66') - 6

Made a positive impact off the bench. Fought hard with Accrington's centre-backs to give Rovers some attacking platforms but the chance he craved proved elusive.

Sylvester Jasper (for Anderson on 73') - 6

Was brought on as a right-back but his brief was to get forward and deliver. Put in a couple of inviting crosses.

Not used: Anssi Jaakkola, Glenn Whelan, Harvey Saunders.
