Brian Cox shares disappointing Succession update

Brian Cox issued a disappointing update for fans of Succession as the cast are "still waiting" for scripts for the upcoming season.

The Dundee -born actor confirmed new episodes of the hit HBO drama are in the works, but it may be some time before the popular show returns to screens.

In a recent interview, the 75-year-old revealed the team are still waiting on writers to deliver the next installment.

He said: "We are still waiting on the writers. We’re like Blanche DuBois. We depend on the kindness of our writers.”

The star plays Logan Roy in the hit HBO drama, which wrapped up the third season in late 2021.

Viewers can't get enough of the constant bickering between the dysfunctional, entitled heirs to his multi-billion dollar media conglomerate.

Spoilers ahead for Succession

At the end of last year’s outing, his tyrannical Logan Roy ousted his children from WayStar RoyCo by renegotiating his divorce settlement.

His decision could lose his children millions as they are now no longer entitled to inherit the company once he passes away.

Kendall, played by Jeremy Strong, had already declared war on his father, and now it seems both Siobhan, played by Sarah Snook, and Roman, played by Kieran Culkin, will be joining the fight.

However, their own civil war is far from over as it was Shiv’s husband Tom, played by Matthew Macfadyen, who tipped Logan off about their plans to revolt.

Fans are eagerly waiting for the next installment of the show, but in a recent interview with Deadline, the show's patriarch admitted he doesn't know when filming will begin for new episodes.

When asked if production had started, acclaimed actor Brian revealed: “No, no, no.”

As the series progresses, Brian admits he is starting to see some similarities between himself and his terrifying on-screen persona.

“Of course, there are overlaps,” he confirmed. “There’s bound to be overlaps.

“I mean, the similarity between me and Logan Roy is that we do share the disappointment in the human experiment.”

Although Brian shares some of Logan’s cynicism, the actor himself hasn’t quite given up on the state of the world just yet.

He explained: “He really thinks that we’re doomed, whereas I feel the opposite.

“You know, as long as the conversation keeps going on, I’m an optimist.”

Succession’s latest release was delayed by the Covid pandemic but hopefully fans can remain equally optimistic about the wait for season four being much shorter this time around.

Succession seasons 1-3 are available to stream on HBO Max in the US and NOW in the UK.
