Brenden Aaronson sends trophy-winning USMNT reminder amid Leeds United uncertainty

Leeds United midfielder Brenden Aaronson has been praised by media in the United States after impressing for the United States Men's National Team's win over Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League final. The Whites playmaker started in the final and played 68 minutes for his side.

Aaronson picked up his 32nd cap for USA at the Allegiant Stadium on Monday as they defeated their near rivals 2-0 in the final. Crystal Palace centre-back Chris Richards opened the scoring after 12 minutes with Arsenal's Folarin Balogun adding a second just after the half-hour mark.

The Whites midfielder was steady in the heart of midfield albeit quiet in the final third with Aaronson awarded a 6.5 in the MLS' player ratings.

The MLS said: "Canada's tight marking in the midfield didn't allow Aaronson to find much of the game in attack, but what he lacked going forward he made up for in work rate and grit, tirelessly pressing when out of possession and throwing his body around, often against bigger players, in 50-50 duels."

Aaronson has been linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer after struggling in the top flight last season. Nobody made more Premier League appearances for Leeds United last season than Aaronson but his return of one goal and three assists was indicative of the Whites' failures.

Leeds paid £25million to Red Bull Salzburg for Aaronson's services and the 22-year-old reportedly has a relegation release clause, meaning the Whites will have to accept a transfer bid if it triggers this valuation.
