Brendan Rodgers snubs Liverpool and Man City as 'best team' in Premier League

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has named Chelsea as the 'best team' his side have faced this season.

The Reds and Manchester City continue to battle it out at the top of the Premier League table, while Thomas Tuchel's side started the campaign as title contenders. A series of injuries and behind the scenes struggled hindered their charge, but they still remain third in the table.

Leicester visit Stamford Bridge on Thursday night in their penultimate league game, but the Foxes will be hoping for a better result than the 3-0 defeat at the King Power back in November. Rodgers highlighted the loss as one of Leicester's toughest fixtures of the season.

He told the media on Wednesday: "I would go as far as to say Chelsea are the best team we have played this season. When we played them early on in the season, they were at the top of their game. I thought they were outstanding.

"Not long after that moment, they lost some players. I've said it before, even with squads like Chelsea’s you need your top players available. Over the course of the time, they have had players out, key players who make the systems function to the highest level.

"Then obviously, there's the distractions behind the scenes, and of course, that's a challenge. What I do know is they've got an outstanding manager who has done a fantastic job since he's been there. They've got a group of really good players, top, top talents.”

Liverpool have played Leicester on three occasions this season. The Reds defeated them 5-4 on penalties in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup back in December, but Rodgers' side had the better of them less than a week later in the league meeting. At Anfield in February, the Reds ran out 2-0 winners.
