Brendan Rodgers will be presented to the media at Parkhead at 4pm Friday at his official unveiling as the new Celtic boss.
The Irishman penned a three-year contract n Monday to return to the east end of Glasgow, succeeding Ange Postecoglou. The Treble winners revealed the 50-year-old would conduct a press conference at Celtic Park “later this week” as they announced him as manager. And now the Treble winners have confirmed it will take place at 4pm.
Rodgers has been enjoying some down time at the family holiday home in Majorca but he will be back enjoying the familiar surroundings of his old stomping ground when he walks back through the front doors at Parkhead for the first time as manager since his shock departure four years ago. And the manner of him leaving the Hoops for Leicester City in February 2019 is sure to feature heavily on the agenda when he takes his place in the media room as some supporters still haven’t forgiven him for walking out for the Foxes mid-season.
Rodgers will attempt to explain that decision as he looks to win back any fans who were against his return. The Irishman will also discuss his plans to progress the club in Europe as they go straight into the Champions League group stage thanks to winning their second successive Scottish Premiership title.
A crowd of around 15,000 turned out at Parkhead when Rodgers was appointed Celtic boss first time around. He was a box office name having taken Liverpool to within a whisker of the English Premier League. But the fact the relationship between Rodgers and the fans ended on a sour note means similar numbers may not descend on the east end of Glasgow this time.
But all will become clearer on Friday both in terms of the reception from the supporters as well as Rodgers outlining his vision for the club in his second coming.
