A 12-year-old boy is dead after the car he was driving collided with a lorry overnight in Limerick.
Shortly before 2am, gardaí and emergency Services were alerted following the crash on the N21 at Rineroe near Adare.
The driver of the car, a 12-year-old, was fatally injured. He was the sole occupant of the car. His body has since been removed to the morgue at University Hospital Limerick.
The driver of the lorry, a man in his 40s, did not require hospital treatment.
The scene is preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are currently in place on the N21, with city bound traffic being diverted from Adare via Croom.
Wicklow stabbing
Two people have been arrested after a man was stabbed to death in Wicklow on Thursday night.
The man, aged in his 30s, was found dead by gardai at a house in Ballyconnell shortly after 8pm.
A man and woman were arrested at the scene in connection with the incident.
A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault of a male that occurred at a house in Ballyconnell, Shillelagh, Co. Wicklow yesterday evening, Thursday 10th February 2022.
"Gardaí attended the scene of the incident at approximately 8.15pm. A male, aged in his 30s, was located deceased inside the property with fatal injuries. His body remains at the scene.
"The scene is currently preserved and a technical examination will be carried out by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem will be conducted later today."
Met Eireann warning
Two Met Eireann warnings have been issued for Ireland with stormy conditions set to move in from the Atlantic on Friday.
The first status yellow warning comes into place at 3pm for Donegal, Galway and Mayo with gusts of up to 110km/h until midnight.
A separate warning has been issued for rain in Cork, Kerry and Galway again from 6pm until 6am on Saturday - flooding is possible in these areas.
It's set to be a miserable weekend across the country as the stormy weather moves in this afternoon.
A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Cloud will build from the west today with rain developing along the west coast around midday, spreading gradually eastwards across the country through the day. Becoming increasingly windy too, with southerly winds increasing fresh to strong and gusty with gales developing on Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, coldest in Ulster.
"A wet and windy night with widespread rain and strong and gusty southerly winds, reaching near gale force along western coasts. The rain will be persistent in parts of the west bringing a risk of localised flooding. Temperatures increasing overnight to between 6 and 9 degrees. A clearance to scattered showers will move into the west towards dawn."
