Chelsea have announced the signing of Diego Moreira from Benfica, quickly following on from the addition of Alex Matos earlier on Saturday. Moreira is currently involved with Portugal's under-21 side at the European Championships in which Levi Colwill, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk are competing.
Moreira could face new teammates Colwill and Madueke when England face Portugal in quarter-finals of the tournament on Sunday. The youth international has already featured against Netherlands and Belgium after being called up to replace Arsenal's Fabio Vieira, who pulled out of the squad with an injury.
The 18-year-old winger has already made his senior debut for Benfica, making his debut in May 2022 against Pacos de Ferreira. However, the bulk of his experience has come for their B team in 2022/23 and also in the UEFA Youth League. His career so far has seen Moreira score 10 goals and provided 11 assists across 64 appearances, with five strikes and seven assists coming in 15 appearances in the UEFA Youth League, which his side won in 2022.
Moreira's youth career started at Standard Liege before he made the move to Benfica in 2020, and even made two appearances for the Belgium Under-15s in 2019.
Moreira, in his initial steps with the club, is likely to strengthen Chelsea's development squad and follows in the footsteps of Dujuan Richards, who will join the Blues when he turns 18. The west London side have been unafraid to add to Mark Robinson's side with last summer seeing the additions of Zak Sturge, Omari Hutchinson and Cesare Casadei.

With Omari Hutchinson and Harvey Vale not expected to remain with the under-21s Moreira will likely have an opportunity to quickly impress at Kingsmeadow.
