A Victorian boy has been charged with murder after a man was fatally stabbed in Melbourne's southeast.

Hashim Mohamed, 18, was found with stab wounds near St Kilda Beach on the evening of December 4 last year.

He died in hospital from his injuries.

Homicide Squad detectives on Friday charged a 15-year-old Taylors Hill boy with Mr Mohamed's murder.

The boy was initially charged in December with other offences in relation to the incident, including violent disorder and affray.

He has been in custody since that time and will return to a children's court at a later date.

Seven males, aged between 15 and 18, have been charged in relation to Mr Mohamed's death, with offences ranging from assault to weapons charges.

Detectives still want to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or had information about those involved.

"We know there were friends of the victim present on the evening who witnessed the stabbing," Assistant Commissioner Bob Hill said in a statement.

"For the sake of Hashim and his family, please do the right thing and contact police.

"Victoria Police will do everything possible to hold those involved in this incident to account, but this is undoubtedly a situation where we need the support of the community."
