Bournemouth Airport in major hiring drive as demand grows for international cargo handling

Bournemouth Airport is launching a recruitment drive to attract up to 75 new staff amid growing demand for international cargo handling and holidays.

The transport hub said it had seen a rise in demand, in particular, for freight with European Cargo - a cargo operator based at the airport, which has a fleet of Airbus A340 long-haul aircraft and operates flights to the Far East and the US.

The airport, which currently employs around 230 staff, is looking to fill a range of jobs including aviation security officers; passenger services agents; cleaners; arrivals agents; cargo agents; and airside ramp agents.

Steve Gill, managing director of Bournemouth Airport, said: “We know there’s pent-up demand for holidays after two years of coronavirus disruption, and advance bookings are looking very positive.

"At the same time Bournemouth Airport has developed a significant international freight operation, which continues to grow."

The transport hub will be holding a recruitment open day on Thursday, January 27, in the main departures terminal from 2pm to 8pm.

"We’re looking to recruit 75 new staff in the next few months across a range of roles, and we look forward to welcoming people to our open day to meet our teams and find out more," added Mr Gill.

Bournemouth Airport is flying to 33 destinations for the 2022-23 season, including new routes to Bergerac in France; Budapest in Hungary; Wroclaw in Poland; and Zadar in Croatia.

TUI and Ryanair are the airport’s main operators. In November, Ryanair announced it would be flying to Bergerac and the resort of Zadar on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast in 2022.

It brings the number of Ryanair routes available from Bournemouth to 15 in its 2021-22 schedule. Flights to Bergerac and Zadar will start on March 29 and will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
