Boris Johnson branded 'a man without shame' as Tory MPs turn on Prime Minister

Boris Johnson has been branded “a man without shame” as he hid behind an ongoing police investigation into breaches of lockdown to cling on in Downing Street.

Labour leader Keir Starmer framed the Prime Minister as the central suspect in a police investigation in the partygate scandal, while Ian Blackford was thrown out of the Commons for declaring: “that man has misled the House”.

The SNP's Westminster leader left the Commons chamber as he clashed with the Speaker for accusing the Prime Minister of misleading the House - a charge which cannot be made in the Commons.

In dramatic exchanges, veteran Tory Andrew Mitchell turned on Johnson, while and Theresa May called on him to explain his breaches of lockdown regulations.

The former Prime Minister called on the Tory leader to give an account of himself as he came before the Commons to answer on the Sue Gray report into Downing Street’s 'partygate' culture.

She said: “The Gray report shows that number 10 Downing Street was not observing the regulations they had imposed on members of the public. So either my Right Honourable friend did not read the rules or didn’t understand what they meant and others around him, or they didn’t think the rules appled to number 10, which was it?.”

The Prime Minister said that was not what the Gray report said and suggested that the former PM await the outcome of the police inquiry.

But Labour leader Starmer said that the Prime Minister said the British people believe Boris Johnson should “do the decent thing and resign” but continues to hide behind the police investigation as “a man without shame”.
