Boris Johnson asks 'ignorant' Lorraine Kelly question as heated GMB chat with Susanna Reid ends

Boris Johnson did little to ingratiate himself to the millions who watched his interview on Good Morning Britain when he asked an 'ignorant' question about Lorraine Kelly as it came to an end.

After a near five year boycott from the ITV daytime show, the Prime Minister sat down with host Susanna Rei d in 10 Downing Street to face questions on everything from the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the severe repercussions for residents in the eastern European country, to the huge impact of the cost of living crisis on people back in the UK.

After kicking off the interview by asking Johnson if he was 'honest, ' Susanna tried to hold him to account on a number of issues, using a heart-wrenching case study from a 77-year-old GMB viewer to hit home her points about the implications of the rising cost of living.

The interview started almost half an hour and lasted around 20 minutes, with Susanna bringing things to a close by talking about public services, pointing out that it was under a Conservative government that cuts were made to both the NHS and police forces. As he urged viewers to vote for his party again in Thursday's elections, Susanna thanked him for his time, before adding: "Lorraine is waiting to take up all the issues you've raised in this interview."

Looking bemused, Johnson replied: "Who's Lorraine?" to which a startled Susanna replied: "Who's Lorraine?! She's a legend," before Johnson said he didn't want to speak to Lorraine anyway. The Scottish TV icon was listening in on the chat from her ITV studio and, after initially reacting: "Wow," praised Susanna for giving a 'masterclass in political interviewing.'

Reacting to Boris' Lorraine Kelly question on Twitter, one viewer wrote: "I mean we can all laugh about the “who’s Lorraine” comment but that’s the reality of Boris Johnson, when he should keep his mouth shut, he can’t. He is a liability." A second tweeted: "Who’s Lorraine?” #Boris failing the ultimate test of being in touch with the country on @GMB."
