Reports of an 'unexploded wartime device' sparked an emergency response with bomb squads racing to the scene on a busy Scots road.
Officers were called to the A8 in Shawhead, Coatbridge, after the alarm was raised at around 2.45pm on Monday, January 24.
Cops closed off the on and off ramp from the A725 to the A8 as diversions were put in place.
Glasgow Live reports that, upon arrival, the Explosives Ordnance Disposal team assessed the item.
However, it was later confirmed to be identified as a 'gas canister' before roads reopened at around 6.25pm.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.45 pm on Monday, 24 January, police were called following the discovery of what was thought to be an unexploded wartime device near to the A8, Shawhead, Coatbridge.
"The EOD (Explosives Ordnance Disposal) attended and following examination it was confirmed that the item, identified as a gas canister, posed no threat to the public.
"The on and off ramp from the A725 to the A8, which was closed as a precaution at the time, is now open."
