Body of man found in Edinburgh city centre near Royal Mile as cops launch probe

The body of a man has been found in Edinburgh city centre this morning.

The discovery was made after emergency services raced to Hunter Square just off the Royal Mile at around 9.40am today.

Police had initially received a concern for a person call.

Photos taken at the scene and shared on social media show a number of police cars and ambulance crew parked in the square, which remains cordoned off hours later.

At least one officer can be seen standing guard at the area which is taped off, while another two are stationed near Starbucks a few metres away, presumably to advise pedestrians of the cordons in place.
