BMW has upgraded its X1 family in India with the introduction of BMW X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) model with an introductory price tag of Rs 49.90 lakh. This new variant caters to those customers who would like the premium appeal of the X1 but would prefer additional rear legroom.
The X1 LWB will go on sale along with the regular wheelbase X1 and electric iX1. Remarkably, the cost of this variant is Rs 1 lakh lower compared to the normal version of X1 and Rs 1.5 lakh lesser compared to the iX1 LWB.

One of the most notable improvements is the increase in size and wheelbase length. The newly launched BMW X1 LWB has a length of 4,616 mm, which makes it 116 mm longer than the regular version.
The reason behind this is that the wheelbase has been increased by 108mm to 2,800mm. This additional space has been utilized by BMW for making the rear seats comfortable. This is because the back passenger will now have 109mm extra legroom and an additional 15mm backseat cushion length.
In case of families that usually carry adult passengers in the second row, this will become a major strength of the new X1 LWB.

Design of X1 LWB is no different from that of the standard X1; however, there are a couple of visual upgrades. These include the chrome window line, as well as silver inserts on the door sills and rear bumper.
The vehicle still has LED headlamps and LED tail lights, and 18" alloy wheels.

Feature-Rich, Spacious Cabin
Inside, the main attraction is the extra space at the back. The interior then features the BMW curve display that brings together the instrument panel and infotainment system.
Some of the other key features are the fixed glass roof, wireless charger, power front seats, and rear reclining seats.
The cargo volume is 540 liters with the presence of the rear seats. The cargo volume increases to 1,700 liters if the rear seats are folded.
BMW X1 LWB Gearbox and Engine
Despite the fact that BMW X1 continues to compete among the premium compact SUV segment, where its main competitors are Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, it became more appealing to customers seeking a comfortable rear seat owing to the emergence of the LWB variant. Instead of just buying a premium compact SUV, buyers may choose the X1 model that focuses on passenger comfort.
Does the BMW X1 LWB Make Sense?
BMW X1 LWB can be differentiated primarily on account of its wheelbase that has been increased by 108mm, and also an additional 109mm of legroom in the back seat. Therefore, this particular variant will particularly appeal to those customers who generally carry passengers in the second row.
Moreover, this particular variant costs Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and thus becomes a highly competitive one among the other variants of the X1 range. However, what should be noted is that the diesel engine is not available in this particular variant of the X1, whereas the usual X1 comes equipped with the diesel engine.
Thus, this variant definitely adds another level to the BMW X1 family, combining a luxury interior and equipment offered by BMW with the spaciousness of the rear seats.
