Big Brother ready to make a comeback on rival channel five years after axe

Talks are being held in an effort to bring Big Brother back to our TV screens five years after the reality show was axed. According to The Sun, ITV bosses are in talks to bring back the iconic show that features members of the general public who have never met each other before in a house.

Big Brother last aired in 2018 on Channel 5, having been launched by Channel 4 in 2000. And now ITV is thought to be considering the series on ITV2 in 2023 after dating show Love Island has aired. An insider said: "ITV is the home of big appointment telly. They know better than anyone how to put on big live events.

"They think putting it on ITV2 will open it up to a new audience and legion of younger fans. They are really keen on getting the deal done on Big Brother, and hope to have something firm to announce soon."

Talks are reportedly in the early stages and the next few weeks are said to be crucial in the planning process. ITV declined to comment when approached by Daily Star.

Davina McCall was the first presenter of the show before she was taken over by former winner Brian Dowling. Emma Willis later took over the reins until the show ended for good in 2018. Speaking recently to Daily Star at the W Channel Spring Launch, Emma shared her thoughts on returning to the show if Big Brother was to come back.

Emma said: "Would I go back? It depends if they would want me to, there are lots of people who could do it.

"I wouldn't fight Davina... No way, she's the queen."

The programme spin-off show was previously hosted by Dermot O'Leary when it aired on Channel 4 but when Channel 5 took over, presenter Rylan Clark took the reins. It is now believed that there is also talks for Rylan to be the host of the revived version. Big Brother produced several household names in its heyday including This Morning's Alison Hammond and the late Jade Goody.
