'Biased with a political agenda': India rejects US Religious Freedom reports

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday rejected a report by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), calling the organisation biased with a political agenda.

Responding to queries regarding USCIRF report, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, said the report misrepresents facts about India.

USCIRF, in its report, said misinformation and disinformation has been used to incite attacks against people belong tp minorities and their places of worship in the country. It also urged US State Department to designate India as "Country of Particular Concern".

 "Our views on the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) are well known. It is a biased organisation with a political agenda. It continues to misrepresent facts and peddles a motivated narrative about India," Jaiswal said.

The MEA spokesperson added that India rejects the "malicious report", which only serves to discredit USCIRF further.

 The spokesperson also urged USCIRF to refrain from pursuing such "agenda-driven" efforts and suggested that USCIRF would benefit from focusing its attention on addressing issues relating to human rights within the US.
