It may seem counterproductive to use a stemless glass for wine.
After all, it’s there to stop the warmth from your hands affecting the temperature of your chosen grape. Unless you’ve gone for a red, whites, sparkling and rose generally taste better when served slightly chilled.
However there are pros to using a stemless receptacle for wine. Aside from sipping reds like Cab Sauv, Merlot and Tempranillo, they can be used to bring up the temperature of whites that you’ve just taken out of the fridge for an optimum drinking experience.
Stemless wine glasses or tumblers are also good for serving drinks other than wine, say cocktails, whisky or soft drinks. And good news for Calamity Johns and Janes; they’re harder to break as it’s the stem that usually snaps first.
If you’re having friends over or throwing a casual dinner party, they’re a safer bet than your fancy, more expensive glassware.
