The strange, ethereal substance that collects on knitwear especially doesn’t seem to be of this world, and yet it is a build-up of tiny pieces of yarn, fibre and thread that get dislodged in the washing process. It’s a cleaner version of dust, itself made up of far more unsavoury microfibres like hair, dead skin cells and pet dander.
