Best Indian restaurant in Greater Manchester is named

A restaurant in Tameside has been crowned the Best Indian Restaurant in Greater Manchester.

Spice Inn, on Haughton Green Road, picked up the gong at the 2022 Euro Asia Curry Awards - an annual ceremony dedicated to celebrating the success of the curry industry. The prestigious event recognises the very best curry eateries in the UK and the hardworking and talented people behind them.

This year, a total of 370 businesses and individuals were nominated for the Euro Asia Curry Awards. Fifty winners were picked and received their coveted accolades at a ceremony at Mayfair Venue in Chadwell Heath in London earlier this month.

The Spice Inn, which is located in Haughton Green in Denton offers both a dine-in service and takeaway and says its mission is to "provide you with the most stylish and comfortable dining environment where quality cuisine, made in the traditional way, will be served". Dishes vary from starters like onion bhaji and vegetable samosas to tandoor plates, vegetarian delicacies and chef specials.

The Euro Asia Awards, now in their sixth year, were founded by Bangladeshi chef, Shorif Kahn, who has cooked for a variety of high-profile names, including former Prime Minister Theresa May. Commenting on the awards, he said: “It was wonderful to once again celebrate the many talented teams and individuals who make the UK curry industry as fantastic and popular as it is.

“The pandemic hit our restaurants and takeaways hard, but thankfully customers are coming back. It was particularly brilliant to see so many Christmas party bookings this year. We hope 2023 will be even better!”

Last month, ten Greater Manchester restaurants were also shortlisted in the British Curry Awards ahead of an the official ceremony taking place in London in January 2023. In the city centre, restaurants nominated included Scene Indian Street Kitchen, Asha's, Dishoom, Mowgli Street Food, Deli House Cafe and Bundobust. In Oldham, Blue Tiffin Restaurant also made the cut, as did Indialicious in Rochdale.

Even though it is estimated that the UK curry industry contributes around £5billion to the British economy, the industry is currently facing a lot of uncertainty due to rising bills and the cost of living crisis. Earlier this year it was reported that London curry restaurants could charge £30 for a curry as inflation creeps up, with industry leaders in the industry concerned it could lead to the closure of many more restaurants across the UK.
