The heatwave has well and truly arrived across Co Tyrone, with temperatures hitting as high as 27 degrees in some places this week.
We’ve been seeking the shade and keeping hydrated as ways to cool off in the unrelenting heat, but there’s nothing better than a big 99 to enjoy the hot weather.
Luckily here in the county, there are plenty of great spots to enjoy some of the best ice cream about. We asked our MyTyrone readers on our Facebook page to give us the lowdown on where they head on a sunny day.

We were overwhelmed with the responses - we were told about the dozens of spots from one end of the county to the next.
However, here are ten of the most popular suggestions for where Tyrone people go to get their ice cream fix:
Fannin’s, Clogher
Get it while you can! The shop is reported to be closing in September so you don’t want to miss out on your sweet treat.
Dukes Ice Cream, Gortin
This was definitely one of the most popular responses, branding themselves as ‘Premium Ice Cream’ and it must be with the amount of people showing love for this spot.
Mackles, Dungannon
This Armagh based business is turning into a bit of an ice cream empire across Northern Ireland, and for good reason.
Cafe Scoop, Strabane
One look at Cafe Scoop’s social media pages will have you drooling - some of the sweetest creations you could think of at this popular spot in Strabane.
Wee Buns, Castlederg
Apart from the brilliant name, Wee Buns is well known for its scoops and is the best Castlederg has to offer according to our readers.
McElroy’s, Augher
A well-known family in the Co Tyrone town that have been around for a long time, they must also be doing something right with their ice cream.
Betty’s Ice Cream, Pomeroy
Young entrepreneur Bethany Boyd started her ice cream venture last year and it has gone from strength to strength ever since.
Yum Yums, Strabane
There were a fair few suggestions for various Strabane ice cream hotspots to enjoy during the heatwave, is it maybe the ice cream capital of Co Tyrone?
McKeown’s Gortin
Likewise, Gortin appears to be punching above its weight as McKeown’s was the second spot in the village to make it into the list.
McCann’s Shop, Eglish
There was a lot of love for those behind this corner shop in the Eglish area, well-known for its top quality ice cream.
