Two best friends who lost touch for more than 50 years reunited after a chance phone call.
Eileen Triffitt and Mavis Macleod were born a year apart and spent their childhood together on Crosby Road in Waterloo. The neighbours who "never stopped dancing" and "were like sisters" became inseparable.
But, over time, the pair lost touch as Eileen married and moved to Yorkshire while Mavis joined the Wrens. That was until half a century later when Eileen, then in her 70s, found a long-forgotten address book in her attic and inside was the old phone number of her friend.
