Warning: The contents of this post may shock you.
Here are the Carolina Panthers’ best and worst Pro Football Focus grades from their Week 17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars:
Best of the offense
1. LT Ikem Ekwonu: 83.5
2. RB Chuba Hubbard: 76.2
3. RT Taylor Moton: 70.1
4. C Bradley Bozeman: 65.4
5. WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette: 64.9
Yeah, we’re surprised too.
Despite being charged with a team-high two sacks and three total pressures, Ekwonu receives the highest offensive grade of the week. He earned a 76.3 in pass blocking and a season-high 93.9 in run blocking.
Worst of the offense
13. RG Nash Jensen: 47.9
14. WR Jonathan Mingo: 47.4
15. TE Tommy Tremble: 44.4
16. WR DJ Chark: 42.4
17. LG Cade Mays: 36.6
PFF credited Chark with two drops. But one could argue that it was three botches, all of at least 30 yards, in that four-play span in the fourth quarter.
Best of the defense
1. DT Derrick Brown: 89.5
2. S Jeremy Chinn: 82.4
3. CB Donte Jackson: 75.4
4. OLB Brian Burns: 69.7
5. CB D’Shawn Jamison: 66.6
As opposed to the offense, the lead dog here isn’t a surprise at all.
Brown, along with Burns, tallied a team-high eight tackles. They were also credited with four stops apiece.
Worst of the defense
15. DE DeShawn Williams: 57.5
16. DT Shy Tuttle: 53.7
17. S Xavier Woods: 53.6
18. DE LaBryan Ray: 53.2
19. OLB DJ Johnson: 30.3
Woods did register three stops, but allowed five receptions and 41 yards on five targets.
