Carson, who served in the first Trump administration from 2017 to 2021, confirmed that he plans to discuss future endeavors with President-elect Donald Trump.
In a social media post on Sunday, Carson debunked false reports suggesting his appointment as the U.S. Surgeon General. He expressed enthusiasm about continuing to support the 'America First' agenda and mentioned an upcoming meeting with President Trump.
Despite his denial of the Surgeon General position, Carson remains an ardent supporter of Trump and has been critical of the Biden administration. Following Trump's victory in the recent election, Carson extended his congratulations and emphasized the need to work towards the country's progress.
The U.S. Surgeon General, although not a Cabinet-level role, holds significant responsibilities as the head of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This position plays a crucial role in providing Americans with vital health information and overseeing a group of over 6,000 public health professionals.
Carson's statement coincides with ongoing deliberations over key Cabinet positions in the incoming Trump administration, such as secretary of transportation, commerce, and treasury. Additionally, Trump is yet to announce selections for HUD secretary, agriculture secretary, and education secretary.
Most recently, Trump revealed that Chris Wright, CEO of Liberty Energy, will join his Cabinet as the secretary of energy. Trump praised Wright's expertise in energy technology and entrepreneurship.
