Beauty guru shares skincare mistake that could be clogging up your pores - and easy fix

When it comes to skincare, it can be hard to know where to start. But one thing you can count on is that you'll need a good cleansing routine. After all, your skin goes through a lot during the day.

As soon as you step outside you're exposed to all sorts of stuff, from pollution to the harsh elements. Then think about the skincare products you use - plus any make-up you build on top of that - and there's a lot you'll need to cleanse away at the end of the day.

Unfortunately, there's a common mistake lots of beauty lovers make according to skincare influencer Scott McGlynn.

As an ardent make-up lover, the Welsh actor and presenter knows a thing or two about how best to care for his skin. He's also the creator and host of Celebrity Skin Talk, an Instagram series devoted to all things skincare.

Keen to share the advice he's accumulated from working with the industry, he sat down with the Mirror, and Scott revealed one blunder he sees all too often.

"When people wear makeup, a lot of people do not remember how to double cleanse," he said.

Scott went on to explain the process works just like it sounds. The first cleanse "starts to remove your make-up, or a layer of it anyway", then it is the second cleanse "that really starts to get deep into the skin and nourish" it.

He added that some brands help with the process, as they will advertise products as pre-cleanser, which works to help 'melt' make-up away before you complete the rest of your skincare routine as usual.

Conversely, he says it is key not to 'over-cleanse' either. Scott reserves double cleansing for the days he's enjoyed a heavier make-up look, like after photoshoots or other work events when he's sported a glamorous look.

"If it is just a normal day and I've been wearing a tinted moisturiser or a little bit of foundation then one cleanse is enough," Scott explained. "You've got to be careful that you don't over-cleanse because then you start to dry up the skin."

The influencer, who has over 260,000 followers on Instagram, has also seen the trick in action. He recalled hearing back from a woman who tried double cleansing following his advice. She told him, 'now my skin feels clean', explaining that she would previously feel like there was something left on her skin after cleansing, which could be a sign she needed to revamp her routine.
