A regional mayor of the town gripped by the violence of an alleged attack on its local federal MP believes the tragic event will have a "huge impact" on the community.
It comes as first responders hailed independent MP Helen Haines' incredible bravery after being struck outside her electorate office in the regional Victorian town of Wangaratta on Monday afternoon.
