Bears to meet with Joe Barry for defensive coordinator

The Chicago Bears are expected to meet with former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry on Saturday for their defensive coordinator vacancy, according to NFL Network’s Jane Slater.

Barry, who served as Green Bay’s defensive coordinator for the past three seasons, was fired Wednesday.

There was a belief that Barry could remain on the Packers’ staff in some capacity, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. But it sounds like he’s exploring other options — even with his former team’s arch rivals.

The Bears have been without a defensive coordinator since Williams resigned under mysterious circumstances in Week 3. Eberflus took over play-calling duties and helped get the defense on track in the second half of the season. And Eberflus said he expects to continue calling plays in 2024.

Now that the Bears have their offensive coordinator in Shane Waldron, it’s full steam ahead in their defensive coordinator search. Chicago has already interviewed Tennessee Titans defensive pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach — and former Bears cornerback — Chris Harris, Titans assistant head coach and defensive line coach Terrell Williams, Bills assistant HC/defensive line coach Eric Washington and now Barry.
