BBC's Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof start date as Holly Willoughby fights tears in trailer

Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof on BBC One finally has a start date. Hosted by Holly Willoughby and Lee Mack, the series will follow eight celebrity contestants as they undertake a series of challenges that will test them to their limits, both physically and mentally.

Earlier this year Holly took time out of ITV's This Morning to film the show, and now a release date for the new season has been announced alongside a first look trailer. In the clip the stars can be seen embarking on an epic adventure through the sub-zero temperatures of Northern Italy under the guidance of Wim Hoff, who is also known as The Ice-man.

Extreme athlete Wim has dedicated his life to showing others that they can achieve things they thought were impossible, by controlling his mind and body when running a half marathon above the Arctic circle barefoot, submerging himself in ice for 1hr 52 mins and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in just his shorts and shoes. He has been teaching the benefits of cold-water therapy for decades, with a huge following including A-listers and athletes around the world.

In the trailer, presenter Holly can be heard saying: "Eight celebs. One Iceman. No red carpet. No enjoying the view. No hot tubs. Not hot showers. No feeling in their toes, hands or bum. No escaping. No safety nets. No going back. No idea what they've signed up for."

The clip then cuts to the celebrities taking on extreme challenges as Holly looks on in tears. Earlier this year Holly explained on The One Show how intense the show was and how some of the tests were life-changing experiences, which brought up a lot of emotion.

"We've got eight celebrities who are going out and challenging themselves, this is not something where they get voted off and it's not like a popularity contest, they are really, really challenging their minds and their bodies," Holly explained on the BBC One show. "All I can tell you is, it was intense for everybody, medics were involved, and I was in tears at many, many points throughout it.

When does Freeze the Fear start?

BBC One's Freeze the Fear officially has a start date. The series will kick off on Tuesday, April 12.
