The BBC were forced to apologise after their coverage of the FA Cup fifth round clash between Middlesbrough and Tottenham was marred by problems with the pictures.
Championship outfit Middlesbrough played host to Spurs at the Riverside on Tuesday but fans were unable to follow all of the action.
The screen went blank in the 72nd minute of the contest before normal service was resumed.
The game was originally shown on BBC One, however due to the news being broadcast at 10pm, they switched their matchday programming to BBC Two, causing further disruption for viewers.
Middlesbrough went on to win the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from Josh Coburn in the 107th minute, the young forward having come on during extra-time before firing home from close range to knock Spurs out of the FA Cup.
The defeat means the north London club only have fourth spot in the Premier League to play for, and their trophy drought has now extended to 15 years.
Speaking after the game, Spurs boss Antonio Conte said: "I think we have had the chances to score but we didn't take it and then you give confidence to your opponent, then you risk.
"At the end Middlesbrough won the game and they deserve to go to the next round. Great compliment to them, the manager and the players because I think they played very well."
