Bayern Munich release transfer statement over Sadio Mane move from Liverpool

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has described the German champions as the 'right club' for Sadio Mane to join as confirmation over his transfer from Liverpool nears completion. Mane's exit from Anfield is imminent after spending six years on Merseyside.

A fee was agreed between Liverpool and Bayern late last week in a deal worth up to £35 million for the 30-year-old. Mane has just one year remaining on his contract at Anfield and made it known he was ready to take on a new challenge elsewhere after winning everything under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool signed striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica earlier in June for an initial fee of £64m, but that could rise to a club-record transfer fee of £85m if add-ons are met.

Mane arrived in Munich on Tuesday morning to undertake his medical ahead of completing a move to Bayern with an official announcement due imminently.

When talking to BILD, Salihamidzic said: "Sadio is at the height of his career, at a great age. He is in great shape and he is hungry for titles. He is at exactly the right club. We are all proud and happy that such a world star is coming to Bayern. Especially because such a player was on fire for Bayern from the first minute.

“It means a lot to all of us, to me, to the coaching staff and to the whole club. It's wonderful that we were able to win such a player for our team.”
