Scores more bank and building society branch closures are set to disappear from high streets this year. The shutters are coming down as customers are increasingly managing their money through online services and banking apps.
Banks and building societies have closed, or have scheduled to close, a total of 5,355 branches since January 2015, according to research by consumer organisation Which?. HSBC has already it will shut 114 banks - around a quarter of its total sites - in 2023.
NatWest has 66 closures lined up, with 60 for Barclays and 36 announced by Lloyds for this year, the Mirror reports. The shutters will come down on 23 Halifax branches and Santander will close five.
