Bangla Lounge review: We try 'best-rated takeaway' in Morley near Leeds to see if it lives up to the hype

We're spoilt for choice when it comes to takeaway options in Leeds, but which is the best when you look at the smaller district of Morley?

According to the worlds favourite review site, TripAdvisor, Bangla Lounge is the number one takeaway in Morley, ranking first out of 176 takeaways in the South Leeds district.

With 394 reviews and over 300 of them being excellent it only deemed right that we gave it a try.

It was pretty straight forward to order delivery from Bangla Lounge, they're on the JustEat app - which is always an easy option - although the delivery took over one hour to come, it was safe to say we we're starving at this point.

The order consisted of a chicken dansak, chicken tikka keema masala, keema rice, peshwari naan, garlic naan, chips and poppadoms - it came to a total of £34.70 including delivery and service charge, which I thought seemed about normal for an Indian takeout.

When it finally arrived the food smelt amazing. When dishing it up we noticed a lot, and I mean a lot of grease that had leaked to the bottom of the bag, I'm not 100 per cent of which dish this came from but it was very noticeable. We plated the food up and it didn't look at greasy - perhaps because it had all leaked to the bottom of the delivery bag.

After waiting over an hour for the food at this point we were starved, luckily portion sizes are pretty big - big enough that we had left overs for the tea the next night.

The food itself had lots of flavour, though I did find the chicken to be a bit dry - the naans were too, and lacked in flavour - but the flavours in the curry sauce and rice were great.

It came with all the extras including yoghurt dip, onion salad and mango chutney - my favourite.

The food overall was pretty mediocre, I've had worse but have definitely had better. For me it was the dryness of the chicken and naans that massively let the takeaway down - and not to mention the huge wait time.

I don't think I would order from here again, I can think of a number of better Indian takeout in the local area which I prefer.

The bill

Chicken dansak - £7.95

Chicken tikka keema masala - £9.50

Keema rice - £3.75

Peshwari naan - £3.75

Garlic naan - £3.75

Chips - £1.50

Poppadoms - £1.00

Delivery charge - £3.00

Service charge - £1.00

Total - £34.70
