Lionsgate has announced some significant changes to its upcoming film release schedule. The highly anticipated movie Ballerina is now set to hit theaters in 2024, with a new release date of June 6, 2025. This delay is due to the decision to film additional action sequences under the direction of Chad Stahelski, the creative force behind the John Wick franchise. Stahelski will be collaborating with Ballerina director Len Wiseman to enhance the film's action-packed scenes.
Meanwhile, The Crow will be swooping in to take Ballerina's original slot on June 7, 2024. The Crow, a reboot of the iconic 1994 film, features Bill Skarsgård in the lead role, alongside FKA Twigs and Danny Huston. The movie is based on the popular comic book series and promises to bring a fresh take to the beloved franchise.
In addition to these changes, Lionsgate has also set a release date for a new Guy Ritchie film, starring Henry Cavill and Eiza González, for January 17, 2025. This announcement comes on the heels of the upcoming release of Ritchie's film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, scheduled for April 19 of this year.
Ballerina, part of the expanding Wick franchise overseen by Stahelski, Basil Iwanyk, and Erica Lee, features an all-star cast including Ana de Armas, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, and Keanu Reeves. The John Wick series has gained acclaim for its innovative action sequences and Reeves' impressive stunt work, with the latest installment, John Wick: Chapter 4, becoming the highest-grossing film in the franchise, earning $440 million worldwide.
