As we inch closer to kickoff, the chances of Baker Mayfield making his Rams debut tonight seem to grow by the hour. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported this morning that Mayfield is expected to be active and has a “real chance” to play against the Raiders.
Now, Adam Schefter is taking it a step further. He’s reporting that if John Wolford, who’s questionable with a neck injury, is not healthy enough to play, then Mayfield would be in line to start.
That’s surprising considering Mayfield just joined the Rams on Tuesday, only went through one practice and has had to learn the playbook in an extremely short period of time. It’s also not a great sign for Bryce Perkins’ standing on the depth chart with Mayfield already overtaking him after a couple of days.

The Rams claimed Mayfield off waivers on Tuesday after he was cut by the Panthers, a move he asked for and was granted. He made six starts with Carolina this year, throwing six touchdown passes and six picks with a league-worst 18.3 QBR.
