Rapper Bad Bunny and actor Alan Cumming are set to join the star-studded cast of Toy Story 5, as Disney unveils the highly anticipated trailer for the latest instalment of the beloved animated franchise.
The Puerto Rican music sensation will lend his voice to a character named “Pizza With Sunglasses”, while the host of The Traitors US, Alan Cumming, is slated to portray the evil alter ego of the horse Bullseye.
They will join returning voice talents Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. The new film sees the iconic toys banding together to rescue their owner, Bonnie, from the clutches of her new Lilypad smart tablet.
The final trailer, released by Disney on Tuesday, plunges viewers into the heart of the action. It opens with a blaring alarm, revealed to be emanating from the Lilypad tablet.
Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Allen, attempts to silence it, exclaiming, "I can’t, I have plastic fingers." He is later seen leading an army of toys, riding a winged unicorn doll, as they prepare for a technological showdown.
Woody, who departed the gang in the fourth film to become a "lost toy", makes a dramatic return, sporting a shiny bald spot that prompts a fellow toy to joke he "needs a brown marker". The pull-string cowboy, voiced by Hanks, shares an embrace with Buzz, who remarks, "it’s been too long." Woody responds, "I came here as fast as I could after Jessie called for help."
The trailer then shows Bonnie delighted with her new smart tablet, while Buzz confidently declares, "We’ve got it handled." Cowgirl Jessie (Cusack) confronts the device, asserting she will tell it "how things are run around here." When she pokes the Lilypad, it retorts, "no touching, Jessica," causing gasps among the toys over the use of "the J-word," before Jessie lunges at it.
Further clips reveal the Lilypad tablet, voiced by Greta Lee, throwing toys out of Bonnie’s room and insulting Woody by calling him "Stuffalo Bill." The toys are later seen boxed up and locked away, as Bonnie appears isolated, engrossed in her tablet while her peers do the same. Lilypad ominously states, "Bonnie doesn’t want to play with toys anymore. She needs me."
As the trailer builds to its climax, Jessie defiantly insists, "Bonnie still needs us. Our time ain’t over yet." Buzz calls for backup, summoning an army of Buzz Lightyear action figures in a nostalgic nod to Toy Story 2.
The action figure then leads the toy clan, accompanied by Woody and Jessie, as they ride down a busy road and into the sunset. The trailer concludes with Jessie’s warning of an approaching car, prompting the toys to instantly drop and feign lifelessness, preserving their secret.
Oscar-winning singer Randy Newman’s classic theme song, You’ve Got A Friend In Me, underscores the trailer. On-screen text declares: "This June, the battle for playtime begins."
Toy Story 5 is scheduled for release in UK cinemas on 19 June.
