West Ham close in on first Deadline Day deal as Axel Disasi medical booked

West Ham have scheduled a medical for Axel Disasi ahead of a proposed straight loan move from Chelsea.

Disasi has been frozen out of the Chelsea first team this season, despite training with them at times, and his exit during this winter window was always expected.

While Chelsea always preferred a permanent sale, they do not hold all the cards and Standard Sport understands West Ham are now hoping to close a deal to sign the Frenchman on a six-month loan.

They are understood to have scheduled a medical for Disasi to take place on the morning of Deadline Day.

Other clubs have shown an interest in Disasi throughout the January window and a final decision on joining West Ham is believed to be down to the player.

West Ham have been in the market for a centre-back all month, and look to have settled on Disasi to fill the domestic loan slot left by Igor Julio, who was recalled by Brighton last week.

Julio turned down a move to Crystal Palace to join West Ham last summer as he believed he would get more game time at the London Stadium.

However, the Brazilian made just one league start for the east London club and Nuno Espirito Santo has been keen to bring in another loan signing in his place.

West Ham have also sounded out permanent additions at centre-back, and it remains to be seen whether they will go back in for Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

The Hammers saw a bid rejected for Harwood-Bellis earlier this week, with the fee only half of the Championship club’s valuation of the 24-year-old centre-back.
