Award-winning Northumberland chippy to entertain Good Friday queue for fifth year running

Chocolate eggs and hot cross buns are Easter traditions, and for one Northumberland fish and chip shop so is entertaining its loyal punters on Good Friday.

For the last five years, the Harbour View in Seaton Sluice has put on entertainment for its customers who queue upwards of an hour for the Good Friday staple. Last year saw local folk and pop singer Laura Victoria, from Amble, entertaining the crowds with traditional songs played on her cello.

And in years gone by, there have been magicians, face painters, and balloon animal makers working the crowd. This year, it's another musician on the cards, with County Durham acoustic cover singer Stephen Wilson serenading the queues from noon to 3pm.

And people can request songs from Stephen's huge setlist through his website if they desire. As well as organising the entertainment, Waseem Mir, owner and manager of Harbour View, has arrange for a t-shirt giveaway at various parts of the day to random people in the queue.

Waseem said: "It’s our busiest day of the year and my staff are all geared up to getting the queues down as fast as possible. I’ve ordered around three times our normal quantity of prime Icelandic Cod and extra potatoes to meet the demand.

"We will also allocate each deep fryer to takeaway meals meaning that the restaurant will be closed during the weekend. We know people travel far and wide for our fish and chips and I’d also like to ask people coming by car to park considerately.

"We are open long hours and there will be enough fish and chips for everyone."

Harbour View is open for takeaway only from 11.30am-8.30pm on Good Friday and Easter Monday and 11.30am to 9pm on Saturday April 8. It will be closed on Easter Sunday.
