Victorian Labor caucus appointed Jacinta Allan as the state’s new deputy premier, with Daniel Andrews to announce his new ministry in the next day.
- The foreign minister, Penny Wong, announced she will travel to Vietnam and Malaysia this week.
- There were at least 56 Covid-19 deaths reported across Australia.
- Victorian health officials expect the Omicron BA.4/BA.5 strain of Covid-19 to become the dominant strain in the next few weeks, leading to more cases, reinfections and hospitalisations.
- Australia’s minister for women Katy Gallagher said the decision by the US supreme court to overturn Roe v Wade was “really disappointing”, while New Zealand’s prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, has described it as “incredibly upsetting”.
