Supermarket giant ASDA has 'stunned' shoppers by taking on Poundland and selling £1 engagement rings ahead of Valentine's Day. With February 14 just weeks away, shoppers are gearing up for it, and many are heading to shops like ASDA, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Marks and Spencer, Sainsbury's and Morrisons to get romantic meals, gifts and cards.
But some shoppers are taking it a step further, and are planning to pop the question on the big day. If this is you, then fear not, because ASDA is selling plastic engagement rings for £1.
That means you can get the most important piece of jewellery you'll ever buy while popping in for some milk and bananas. You might get a fat 'no' upon presenting it to your other half, but it's the thought that counts - and we are in a cost of living crisis, after all.
ASDA is selling the novelty engagement rings for £1 each, and they're on shelves now. Unsurprisingly, shoppers don't quite know what to make of them.
On the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group, Beki Devoto said: "Asda Trying To Out-Do Poundland With A £1 Engagement Ring." Alex Smith joked: "At least make it 99p then I’ll think about it."
Pauline Buxton said: "Hope none of the guys buying these think they will be on a promise." Sarah Joanne Owen said: "I bet there will be loads that will."
Craig Cordon said: "What in the universal credit is this." Ryan Biagioni said: "I’m struggling to be sold on this one, sorry."
Romantics can buy the £1 rings at ASDA stores now. We will not be held responsible for your partner's reaction to receiving one.
