Asda shoppers reckon John Lewis has 'no chance' at beating the supermarket's Christmas advert this year.
The ad sees Buddy the Elf, from the iconic festive film starring Will Ferrell, try his hand at becoming an Asda employee. The loveable character is on a trial shift, but ends up getting distracted by all the Christmas goodies in store.
Yet he still manages to save the day by decking out the entire shop floor in fairy lights and festive decorations - securing him the role. Sound tracked by Santa Clause is Comin’ to Town, the advert uses original footage from Elf so it looks like Buddy is actually inside an Asda store.

It also features memorable lines from the film, including: "It's not a costume. I'm an elf," and "the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear." Fans were impressed by Asda's efforts and many took to Twitter to declare it the 'winner' of the Christmas adverts already.
@SamLucy1988 said: "Hope John Lewis has got the best tear jerker advert lined up or it’s got no chance of beating this one! @asda are definitely #SpreadingChristmasCheer" as @KRIFFINGKENOBI stated: "asda have won christmas this year.. The highly-anticipated John Lewis advert is yet to be released, but last year it chronicled space-traveller Skye and her friend Nathan who introduced her to the traditional mince pie and novelty jumper.
Asda's 2022 Christmas advert premieres on Friday November 4 at 8.45pm on ITV1, during the Coronation Street advert break.
