Arsenal club doctor Gary O’Driscoll has revealed his anger with Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo for injuring Gabriel Martinelli.
The Ecuadorian left Martinelli writhing in agony in the first half of Sunday’s clash in north London, with a tackle that forced the Gunners winger off to leave his participation in the final weeks of the season in doubt.
Speaking after the game, O’Driscoll provided an update on the injury after Martinelli was spotted wearing a protective boot.
“Sore,” he told TikToker Kai Cunningham outside the Emirates Stadium.
“It’s a terrible foul, disgraceful. He’s a bit sore but he should be okay.”
Standard Sport understand Martinelli will undergo a scan on his ankle early this week to determine the extent of the damage.
Arsenal doctor O’Driscoll expects the 21-year-old to return before the season’s end, however, while he was asked about Oleksandr Zinchenko and William Saliba’s injury status.
“I think he’ll be back before the end of the season,” he added.
“Not sure about [Zinchenko] but everyone’s fighting to be back for the next game. [For Saliba], same.”
