Defending champions Argentina begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against Algeria in a Group J clash today, one of the most eagerly awaited matches of the opening round. Lionel Messi is leading La Albiceleste as they begin their title defence, while Algeria are aiming to pull off an early upset against one of the tournament favourites.

The match is being played at Kansas City Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Messi put Argentina ahead in the 17th minute, giving the South American giants an early advantage.
