Ange Postecoglou gave his Celtic squad a bit of a battering after they lost their bounce game with Sydney FC in Australia. But the players shouldn’t be feeling sorry for themselves that their manager dug them out in public after a meaningless friendly. They should be grateful.
I have no problem whatsoever at Postecoglou’ s criticism of the side following the defeat. It just shows he cares about the performance, whether it’s in the Champions League, the Premiership, some exhibition match or even in training. The manager has set the standards and he won’t allow them to sip regardless of the scenario.
Fair play to him. It would have been easy to shrug the shoulders and write off the display as down to jet lag to whatever. I’m sure a few in the dressing room might have had their nose put out of joint given the exhausting schedule Celtic have come through before heading Down Under. Signing off for the break with a nine point lead over Rangers is a superb return, regardless of the disappointment the results – if not the performances – in the Champions League.
