Ally McCoist insists Derek McInnes is the right man to drag Rangers out of their slump and restore silverware to Ibrox.
The club’s greatest goalscorer has watched his former team-mate finally land the job he long coveted and believes timing, experience and familiarity with the club make it “a no-brainer”.
McCoist told SunSport: “Derek’s come a long way. I’ve spoken to him, and I couldn’t be happier or prouder.

“He’s a clever lad, Derek. He’s a manager in his own right, but he’s also worked with some of the very best, including Walter Smith and Dick Advocaat.
“You’re not going to tell me he hasn’t learned from the best. He’s also got the ear of Sir Alex Ferguson, and you can’t put into words how important all that has been for him.
“But Derek is his own man. He’s got the job because of the results he’s produced. First and foremost, he’s my mate. He’s also the Rangers manager now, and I couldn’t be happier for him.
“At the same time, he’s acutely aware of the challenges and the potential bumps in the road.”
