A church worker accused of murdering her mother was extremely upset after her bloodied body was found on her kitchen floor, a Sydney jury has been told.

Isabela Carolina Camelo-Gomez was crying and told a trauma social worker she was an only child and now felt very alone.

Camelo-Gomez, also known as Megan Jones, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Irene Jones on November 2, 2001 at her Lansvale home.

The 56-year-old was strangled with a ligature and stabbed in the neck, after returning home from a birthday dinner with her daughter.

Camelo-Gomez, then aged 27, lived with her mother and worked in the office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Giving evidence in the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday, Heather Edwards referred to her notes on Camelo-Gomez written when she was a trauma social worker at Liverpool Hospital emergency department.

"Megan is distressed and crying," she wrote.

The notes said she had been assaulted by an intruder in the house.

"She said he hit and kicked her, put something over her head and tried to strangle her and put his fingers in her vagina.

"Megan fought him off and sought help from neighbours."

The jury has been told the daughter was not allowed in the house after police found her mother's body in the kitchen.

"Megan said she did not see her mother last night after the attack" and was now very keen to see her body.

She also said she was constantly replaying the night's events in her mind.

Jennifer Potter, then a paramedic, testified that she saw Camelo-Gomez outside the house and found her to have minor injuries and to be quiet and withdrawn.

She complained of some pain and tenderness to various parts of her body.

She was later "extremely emotionally upset".

The Crown alleges Camelo-Gomez, now 47, invented the story about an intruder after she murdered her mother.

Prosecutor David Scully alleged she had been obsessed with Carlos Camelo-Gomez, a married man her mother hated, and her daughter believed she was an obstacle to their relationship.

But defence lawyer Belinda Rigg SC disputed claims she wasn't attacked by an assailant in the home before her mother was found dead.

She also referred to lies told by Carlos Camelo-Gomez, suggesting the only explanation was him being conscious of his own guilt in relation to the crime.

The trial continues before Justice Helen Wilson.
